A is for Apple Brown Betty

So we had a really busy weekend and somehow my camera was absent for most of the fun...Not lost, just not with me :) I know my sisters took some great shots so perhaps eventually I'll get a few of those but for now a run-down will have to do!

Here in Canada it was Thanksgiving so we celebrated that which was a major pleasure as the Banman Family makes a mean Thanksgiving spread! Not to mention the company is top notch!

For Thanksgiving I always make the "sides" many of whcih my Grandma taught me how to make when Iwould go to her house the day before Thanksgiving and help with the preparations. I am glad we shared those moments together, it is so fun to have those memories come flooding back every year!! This year Maddie was my kitchen buddy. We made cranberry sauce and cranberry waldorf salad and broccoli salad and applesauce and for dessert, we did an Apple Brown Betty which is my other Grandma's specialty!

It was thrilling to make the apple dish with all of the amazing apples that have been grown locally in the Okanagan! Check out this one Caleb is holding...it's mammoth!

And below is the finished Betty, which Caleb managed to step on in the van. (it was covered with foil) I had no pie plate so I used a cake pan...had lots of those:)

Brownies Banman style!

There was no chocolate in our house this afternoon and I was feeling a little frantic like I needed to sink my teeth into something delicious fast or I might become dangerous...enter: Grandma Crick's "best brownie's" recipie and some icing left over from my Friday cake order...

We had the cousins over for the evening. Here's Jenaya decorating her brownie.

My 2 big girls take these kinds of things very seriously. They want to get it just right.

Madison, on the other hand, goes for quantity, not quality!
After it was all said and done, Mikayla asked for more icing. I said "no" I overheard Mikayla say to Mailee "we should have just piled the icing on like Maddie did" !
Mailee's favorite pose.

Lovely work, Jenaya!

Cute, Mikayla!

(Notice the dress-up? Everytime they emerged from the basement, someone was sporting some form of dress-up. At one point, they all came up with their arms wrapped in blakent "casts" and ate their entire dinners with one hand! Actually, now that I think about it, they were also changing clothes in their bedroom quite frequently...oh, to have the imagination of a kid again!)
